Maasai warriors

Last Wednesday, we were extremely lucky to have a visit from a tribe of Maasai Warriors. The group had travelled all the way from their village in Kenya to perform in schools and colleges in the UK.

Here are some photos of the group performing their traditional songs and dances.

And here is some video so that you can hear their incredible songs.

The Hobbit

JRR Tolkein Comes to Bassett Green!

On September 11th, we were very lucky to have a visit from M&M Productions who were performing their new show 'The Hobbit'!

Four actors took us on a wonderful journey as Frodo the hobbit started his adventure to recover a precious ring. The children really enjoyed the show and many are still wondering how a fire-breathing dragon ended up in the main hall!

Summer improvements

Look what we have been up to over the Summer!

We have completely re-carpeted the corridor outside our Reception and Year 5 classrooms. We have also laid brand new lino outside the boys and girls toilets. The corridor now looks terrific and so much better than it used to.

It was a very mucky job and we'd like to say a huge 'Thank you!' to Steve and all of the cleaners for getting it ready for the start of term.

Also, the playground for the Reception classes has had an extension! We're making room for the extra Year R class who started with us in September. We've got big plans for this area and are going to be making some more big changes to turn it into a fantastic area for the children to use to play in and learn in all day long!

Sorry for the delay!

We just wanted to say a big 'We're sorry' for not updating our blog for a little while.

However, we're now back up and running and we've already got some exciting things to show you.

Keep checking back to see what we've been up to ...

London 2012 Opening Ceremony

Bassett Green is committed to providing the very best opportunities and experiences for it's children. Here is another great example. We were chosen to be one of only 200 schools nationally to form part of a 'Guard of Honour' for the athletes to pass through on their way into the Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony. Bassett Green was lucky enough to represent the team from Saudi Arabia.

Here are the very lucky eight members of our school who were chosen to go to London for the day. They had a full tour of the Olympic Park and got to see all of the main venues including the velodrome, the aquatic center and the 'Copper box'. They had an amazing day and it is something they will remember for a very long time

A review of 2011 - 2012

Here is our video montage of our year. We've had an extremely successful one and the video shows how much fun we have learning at Bassett Green.

Have an amazing Summer holiday and we'll see you in September ready to start a brand new year.

Eco Warriors

Waste Week Update !!

Well, Mr Robinson asked was waste week just a waste of time and Eco Warriors are pleased to tell you that it was definitely not!  I think you will agree with us.  Look at the results:

As you can see, by week 4 we have reduced the amount of waste going to landfill, and increased the amount of waste being composted!

Well done Eco Warriors, Respect to you!
Now over to the whole school to keep reducing waste!

Eco Warriors

Lunchtime Crunchtime

Eco Warriors are trying to reduce waste at lunchtime by composting fresh food scraps and recycling plastic cups.
At the moment all of our lunchtime waste is going to landfill, with nothing  being recycled or composted!  We are  trying to change this trend, and are now recycling some of the waste and composting fresh food scraps.

We are weighing up the fresh food scraps and plastic cups at lunchtime to calculate exactly by how much we are reducing the amount of lunchtime waste going to landfill (whilst starting to compost for our allotment at Swaythling Neighbourhood Centre).  Look out for our findings next Friday, 30th March!

Ring pulls

Don’t forget  - we are still collecting ring pulls to help children working on rubbish dumps in the Philippines, so please send in your ring pulls to school.

Eco Warriors, you are doing an amazing job. RESPECT to you!

Year 5/6 Rock!

Year 5/6 have been drumming along to a track called 'Lonely Boy' by The Black Keys.

Rock along to the Phoenix class and their video!

Look what we've got!

In year 6 we have been thinking of ways to make us stand out to the rest of the school as year 6 role models. We decided that it would be great if we wore a different jumper to the other children in the school.

We all had a go at creating a design and eventually we chose Nouf's. We voted as a year group on the colours used.   We also did some fundraising so we were then able to purchase the jumpers at a specially reduced rate.

We think they look fab! We'd love to know what you think of our new uniform so drop us a line!

Happy New Year!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school everyone! We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, had a good rest and are ready to start the New Year.

We just wanted to share in a little bit of Good News to start the year. At the very end of the Autumn term we found out that bassett Green is one of the top 20 'Most Improved Schools' in the country! This is according to the published league table results of children leaving school in Year 6 from 2008 - 2011.

This is a really remarkable achievement and one that we feel very proud of.

We are very much looking forward to 2012 and we are sure that Bassett Green will continue to go from strength to strength.
