As you were ...

Don't worry folks, we're all back on track now. The builders will move in over half term so the new entrance and the new fire plan will start when we get back.

We'll try to post some photos over half term so it's not too much of a shock when you get back!

Hold your horses!

We're sad to say that the start of our building work is going to be slightly delayed. There is a technical hitch with getting supplies to school to start the work.

We'll update you when we have more information. Sorry for any confusion.

Where did the office go?

All change!

This is a map showing our new entry point while the builders are working on site.
There will be a temporary entrance and reception built at the very top of the school, behind the minibus garage. The entrance will be staffed all day and you will be able to use it just like the old one!

Unfortunately, the corridor being used is quite narrow, so we are asking that children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are dropped off at the entry point and then walk themselves to class.

This entrance will start to be used on Monday 13th May - next Monday!

Ms Filer and Mr Robinson will be on hand first thing Monday morning to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Any problems, just ask!

New Fire Plan

New Fire Plan

Here is our brand new fire plan. We will use this plan for the rest of the term once the builders arrive on the 13th. All of the children have been shown the plan in assembly and have talked about it in their classes.

We will be practicing it several times during the first few days of the project so that all of the staff and children are aware of what to do in the event of a fire.

Please read our new plan carefully

The builders are coming ...

And so it begins ...

Two weeks today, work will begin on our brand new building! We are having seven new classrooms and a new reception area built in tyhe area between Sure Start and the existing office.

It will be a two-storey modular building built by a company called Built Offsite. It is going to be extremely environmentally friendly and we are hoping it will be the first school in Southampton to be awarded the BREEAM 'Excellent' award.

There will be lots of changes to the way the school operates during the time it is being built but this is the place to find out all you need to know. We will be regularly updating our blog with all the information you need to make sure the end of the school year goes swimmingly.

This half terms SEAL topic was 'Good to be me'. As a school we set ourselves a 'Time Out Challenge'. We discussed the importance of having a time out area for each class. The children were given buddies to help support them when feeling: sad, angry, upset or scared. We feel the children have done a great job in making their area as meaningful to their class as possible. Do you agree?

Revamp of SEAL

At the start of every half term we have two SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) days. During this time we look at setting goals for the future, relationships, changes, building self esteem and many more. The children asked us to make SEAL days more exciting so that is what we have done.

This half term we looked at 'Going for Goals'. Here the children studied inspirational people and set long and short term goals. Each class was asked to improve an area of their learning environment, both inside or outside the classroom. Many year groups worked together on this task.

Here is Year R and Year 5's reading area. What do you think?

This is 3/4 W's  'Funny Theatre'

Year 6 completed displays at the school entrance to show visitors how Bassett Green helps children to achieve their dream jobs.

The school council takes charge

This year the school council members are bigger and better than before. They will be discussing hot topics and coming up with ideas on how to make Bassett Green a happy and safe place.

First issue is celebration assembly....how can we make it a little more exciting? Any ideas?
