Eco Warriors

Waste Week Update !!

Well, Mr Robinson asked was waste week just a waste of time and Eco Warriors are pleased to tell you that it was definitely not!  I think you will agree with us.  Look at the results:

As you can see, by week 4 we have reduced the amount of waste going to landfill, and increased the amount of waste being composted!

Well done Eco Warriors, Respect to you!
Now over to the whole school to keep reducing waste!

Eco Warriors

Lunchtime Crunchtime

Eco Warriors are trying to reduce waste at lunchtime by composting fresh food scraps and recycling plastic cups.
At the moment all of our lunchtime waste is going to landfill, with nothing  being recycled or composted!  We are  trying to change this trend, and are now recycling some of the waste and composting fresh food scraps.

We are weighing up the fresh food scraps and plastic cups at lunchtime to calculate exactly by how much we are reducing the amount of lunchtime waste going to landfill (whilst starting to compost for our allotment at Swaythling Neighbourhood Centre).  Look out for our findings next Friday, 30th March!

Ring pulls

Don’t forget  - we are still collecting ring pulls to help children working on rubbish dumps in the Philippines, so please send in your ring pulls to school.

Eco Warriors, you are doing an amazing job. RESPECT to you!

Year 5/6 Rock!

Year 5/6 have been drumming along to a track called 'Lonely Boy' by The Black Keys.

Rock along to the Phoenix class and their video!

Look what we've got!

In year 6 we have been thinking of ways to make us stand out to the rest of the school as year 6 role models. We decided that it would be great if we wore a different jumper to the other children in the school.

We all had a go at creating a design and eventually we chose Nouf's. We voted as a year group on the colours used.   We also did some fundraising so we were then able to purchase the jumpers at a specially reduced rate.

We think they look fab! We'd love to know what you think of our new uniform so drop us a line!

Happy New Year!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school everyone! We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, had a good rest and are ready to start the New Year.

We just wanted to share in a little bit of Good News to start the year. At the very end of the Autumn term we found out that bassett Green is one of the top 20 'Most Improved Schools' in the country! This is according to the published league table results of children leaving school in Year 6 from 2008 - 2011.

This is a really remarkable achievement and one that we feel very proud of.

We are very much looking forward to 2012 and we are sure that Bassett Green will continue to go from strength to strength.

Ah, bless!

Here are some of the children from Year 2 sharing their performance of 'Whoops-a-daisy angel' with the residents of Sunrise Living in Bassett.

We took twenty children to Sunrise and sang songs from this year's Nativity performance.

The residents had a fantastic time and thought the children were really sweet.

We are going to keep up our relationship with Sunrise after our recent assembly from one of our governors about Age Concern!

The builders are back !

'Oh, no!' we hear you say, but this time they're going to be in and out in a week!

We are very lucky to be chosen as one of a handful of schools in Southampton to have Solar panels fitted to our roof!

The panels will generate electricity which will help to reduce our extremely large fuel bill! we'll update you later in the year with how much we've saved.
