Ah, bless!

Here are some of the children from Year 2 sharing their performance of 'Whoops-a-daisy angel' with the residents of Sunrise Living in Bassett.

We took twenty children to Sunrise and sang songs from this year's Nativity performance.

The residents had a fantastic time and thought the children were really sweet.

We are going to keep up our relationship with Sunrise after our recent assembly from one of our governors about Age Concern!

The builders are back !

'Oh, no!' we hear you say, but this time they're going to be in and out in a week!

We are very lucky to be chosen as one of a handful of schools in Southampton to have Solar panels fitted to our roof!

The panels will generate electricity which will help to reduce our extremely large fuel bill! we'll update you later in the year with how much we've saved.

Operation !

Today, the children in Years 3/4 invited their parents in to try out their own versions of the fabulous game Operation! The children looked at the original game and saw how it was made. they then designed and built their own version using their DT skills and their knowledge of electric circuits.

This is what one of the parents had to say about their child's work;                                                                                                                                                             "A very clever and thought-out process and excellent hard work. My son enjoyed his project and spoke in length with excitement. This project has given my son an insight into the human body"

Fireworks!

It is that time of the year again where we all look up at the night sky and watch pretty lights and hear loud noises shooting above our heads. However in order to enjoy this time of year safely you must make sure you follow the fire work code. Every year children and adults get injured by not using fireworks correctly, so read the information below and make sure you're not one of them!

It's that time of the year again - Sports Day. The children have been practicing hard and are now in top form to compete in all off the activities. The children have five minutes to get as many points as they can and then move around to the next activity.

On our way home

We're on our way home now. We had a brilliant day and although we didn't win any medals we are really proud of our efforts.

See you in a few hours ...

Game on!

The competition has just started.

We get 5 minutes at each station to score as many points as we can, then we all move round.

They are scoring us for 'Skills for life' too like honesty, team work and communication.

We've arrived!

We made it everyone!

Got here safely and now just practicing our putting and driving.

All of the team have been given different coloured T-Shirts to wear so we all stand out. They haven't got any big enough for Mr Medway or Mr Robinson though!

The team from Yorkshire look good !

We're off!

Well, it's 6.30am and whilst the rest of you are all snuggled nice and warm in dreamy land, we are off on an adventure. We are going to Loughborough to play golf in the national championships.

We are representing the whole of South-East England and we'll be playing teams from all over the UK. We'll try to keep you updated throughout the day on the blog.

Wish us luck!

Summer Fair 2011

Bassett Green's Summer Fair this year was a terrific success. The event was really well attended and was full of lots of fun games and activities. The school managed to raise an amazing £906 to go towards the cost of the new minibus.

Watch your speed !

"20's Plenty!"
So say these members of our school council. The children spent Friday afternoon with officers from Hampshire Constabulary carrying out a SpeedWatch event.

The children measured the speed of motorists travelling along Honeysuckle Rd. Any motorists travelling more faster than the speed limit had their details recorded and will be getting a letter from the police!

The children also talked to motorist who were parked on the yellow zigzag lines outside the school and told them how dangerous this is!

Lets hope you don't receive one of their letters!

Eco -Warriors say 'Thank you'

Here are two of our Eco Warriors saying a great big 'Thank you' to the Swaythling Neighbourhood Centre committee at their recent AGM.

The Swaythling Neighbourhood Centre have raised a lot of money for our school and have provided us with some land for our allotment.

Look out for opportunities to buy some of our organic produce in the future!

Tag rugby tournament

Wow! Look at this fine example of a rugby team! Bassett Green were one of two schools to respresent the city at the regional Tag Rugby tournament in Aldershot.

The children did really well and won two of their five matches. Unfortunately this wasn't enough to put them through but the certainly gave the opposition a run for their money!

Well done everyone!

Congratulations!

On the 25th May 2011, Ms Bandey gave birth to baby Elsie! Both mum and baby are doing really well at home. We are all very excited about seeing them both, really soon!
